ReadCue Privacy Policy
ReadCue — Reading List Companion is a small Chrome extension I make in my spare time. The short version: everything stays in your browser. ReadCue sends nothing anywhere, and I can’t see any of it.

What ReadCue does
ReadCue works with Chrome’s built-in Reading List to show whether the page you’re on is saved, unread or already read (watched or unwatched, for supported YouTube videos). It never marks anything by itself: opening a page or playing a video changes nothing, and every status reflects your own choice.
What it handles
Only on your device, inside your browser:
- The URLs of your open tabs, to check their Reading List status.
- A page’s title, when you add it to your Reading List.
- Your Reading List entries: saved URLs, titles, read/unread status and timestamps.
- Removal requests that are waiting out their Undo countdown.
URLs and titles can be personal, so ReadCue uses them only to run these features. It doesn’t touch Gmail, Google Drive, cookies, passwords, forms, article text or Chrome’s browsing-history database. It keeps no log of where you’ve been and doesn’t track video playback.
How long it keeps things
Temporary data (a Reading List index and each tab’s status) sits in Chrome’s session storage. It is cleared when the browser restarts or the extension is reloaded, updated, disabled or removed, and a tab’s status also goes when the tab closes.
Removal requests are saved on your device so Undo countdowns survive closing the popup or restarting the browser. Each holds the entry’s URL, title, status, original timestamps, removal deadline and any failure message. Completed or cancelled requests are deleted; failed ones stay until you dismiss or retry them. Uninstalling ReadCue removes its data, never your Chrome Reading List.
Optional website access
If you allow it, ReadCue shows a small, temporary status notice on web pages, without reading or sending their content. Reading List checks work without it, and notifications fall back to your system’s. You can revoke access any time in Chrome’s extension settings.
Changes and syncing
ReadCue changes your Reading List only when you ask. A removal happens only after you request it and the Undo window passes; Undo cancels it. Saved URLs are never rewritten, though newly added ones may have supported tracking parameters removed.
Chrome handles syncing across your devices, using your account and sync settings. ReadCue doesn’t use Chrome’s extension sync storage.
Sharing
ReadCue makes no external network requests and sends nothing to me. There’s no analytics or telemetry, and your data is never sold or used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending decisions. Its use of information from Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and is used only for the Reading List features described here. Diagnostic messages may appear in Chrome’s developer console but stay on your device.
